Our story so far

Joy Cloke Interiors was born out of the need to convey simplistic, earthy, traditional yet contemporary home decor accessories and design to people from South Africa and around the world. We use the finest Ankara wax material imported from the Democratic Republic of Congo and Nigeria to make our beautiful scatter cushions, table-runners and aprons. Beautiful, bold prints in bright colours, Ankara print fabric originated in the early 1800’s when trade between Europe and Indonesia was at its peak and was brought to West Africa and the continent by mercenaries. Our products are manufactured by local women who make use of traditional skills such as sewing and dressmaking to promote ethically produced goods and fair practice.

Our baskets are made in the Upper East region of Ghana, in a town called Bolgatanga. The baskets are woven from elephant grass which grows abundantly in sub-Saharan Africa. The tough nature of the elephant grass together with the skilful weaving technique make these individually woven baskets strong, durable and flexible. The handles are covered with goat leather for re-inforcement and style. These baskets are not only a statement piece, a nifty little fashionable bag to carry your market produce in, but also a lifetime investment! We value trading with the people of Bolgatanga

By purchasing these products you help empower local talented artisans and also contribute to the sustainable development. We are passionate about working towards a society that celebrates diversity, opportunity, equality and social well-being.
